Moving on
Halloween proved to be more of a trick than a treat for KU’s men and women’s cross country teams.
Competing at Edinboro University, only three of the nine female runners placed in the top 30. KU’s top runner, Kristin Cupido, a junior, placed 21st overall with a time of 23:50.3. Following her was senior, Maureen Watson, who placed 25th overall with a time of 24:05.0. And third for KU, but 26th overall was freshman Becca Brandt, with a time of 24:06.4. All together, the team’s average time was 24:10.6.
Of all the 16 schools competing, KU came in fifth place beating Millersville University and losing to first place, Shippensburg University. Last place Cheney University came in with an average time of 38:33.1, and the team’s five runners all finished in the 100s.
As for KU’s men’s cross country, the team finished ninth out of the 15 schools competing.
Senior Ben Loht, placed 30th overall with a time of 27:44.7. With a gap of about .68 of a second behind Loht, sophomore Ryan Reich placed 39th overall with a time of 28:12.3. Third, came freshman Harry Latchford, with a time of 28:30.8 and placed 47th overall.
Lock Haven University placed first out of the men’s teams with an average time of 26:42.2, with Edinboro University close behind with an average time of 26:53.2.
In last place of the men’s cross country teams was Cheney University with an average time of 47:08.6, more than a 16-second gap behind the 14th placing team.
The next meet will be on Nov. 7 at Mansfield University for the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
