"A few years back, a 19-year-old KU student by the name of Kyle Quinn was found in a pile of blood at 2:30 a.m. by a borough police officer. Quinn was walking down Main Street and had been fatally beaten by three men who were looking for a fight. According to KU Crime Alerts on the official KU Web site, there has been a robbery, theft, and three reported rapes. It’s unsafe to be walking anywhere at night for these many reasons. Crimes like these should be prevented and improvements should be made to help that happen." Way ahead of you, Cassie. One of the outcomes of the aforementioned tragedy was the creation of KUBoK, whose mission is to help make the downtown area safer for everyone. Perhaps you might consider volunteering to help us achieve this goal. By the way, I am a lifelong resident, a KU alumnus, a Borough Councilman, and a KUBoK volunteer so I am heavily invested in seeing this joint borough/university collaboration succeed.

My name is Denise Quinn and I am the mother of Kyle Quinn, the KU student who was killed on Main Street on September 7, 2007. I am disappointed to hear the shuttle buses only run every 50 minutes. I had such hope that they could really make a difference in the community and keep KU students safe by offering an alternative to walking or accepting a ride from someone who may have been drinking. Obviously there is still work to be done in Kutztown to see that another family does not have to endure the pain and grief that mine has.
