KU bowling strikes down the competition

The KU women’s bowling team knocked over the competition this weekend, ending the two-day conference matches with a 4-3 record, giving it the second seed for the Northeast Conference championships.

With wins coming in all shapes and sizes — a two pin win over unranked St. Peters (1282- 1280) followed by a convincing 1336-1201 upset win over 10thranked St. Francis on Sunday — the Golden Bears put themselves in a great position going into the final round.

After breaking even Saturday with a 2-2 record, winning over Fairleigh Dickinson (1362-1337) and Long Island (1328-1121) and dropping two matches over New Jersey City (1363- 1241) and Sacred Heart (1429-1373), the Golden Bears came into Sunday hoping to end the tournament with an over .500 record.

Sophomore Chelsea Adam and freshman Jara Cohen bowled for a combined 401 score to put the Golden Bears on top over St. Francis. With a win over St. Peter’s and a loss to No. 7 Adelphi, the women ended the we e k e n d with a winning record and are on their way to the NEC championships. The Golden Bears will travel to Baltimore, Md., this weekend for the Morgan State Invitational, where 30 NCAA teams are scheduled to play.
